Who doesn’t love camping.

When I was a child we would go camping all the time. It was a cheap and cheerful holiday and although we all had a good time, part of me was glad when Matilda arrived and camping became impractical.

Baking time.

I love to bake. I love baking goodies such as cakes and biscuits. I am not very good at it, my bakes are normally simpler recipes and don’t always look as pretty as I hoped but they are always edible and normally taste good.

This week I decided to make some cupcakes. I liked the idea of attempting a like with layers of different colours. Matilda was excited about helping me and I thought why not?

What a View

During my trip to London last week, me and my mum visited the viewing platform of the Shard. This was not my first time up the Shard but this time the weather was so much better then my last visit.

My Birthday Meal at Gordon Ramsay’s cafe

This week I celebrated my birthday. It wasn’t a significant one so I didn’t have any big plans until mum reminded me that for Christmas she had brought me a Red Letter Day Voucher for day out in London and my birthday was the perfect opportunity to use it.

I have had my cut!

For the last few years I have been growing out my hair. I loved having long hair and was reluctant to cut it however this week it has all come off.

Thank you ASDA

My Brownie group is not run for profit. We set the cost of subs based on our outgoings such as hire of the hall, cost of badges and cost of supplies. We try to go for cheaper versions of crafts using Poundland goods or buying bits when we see them on offer. In the 15 years since I was a Brownie the weekly cost has gone up by only 50p (although we may need to increase the subs in September).

Matilda's School concert

This week was Matilda’s spring concert at school. As it was on my day off, I went along to watch.

As a member of the PTA, I had offered to help with the refreshment stall so arrived a little earlier to set up. The concert was due to start at 6 and by 5:45 when they opened the doors the queue to get in went from the school door to the next street over! Luckily I had put my coat and bag on a chair on the front row to ensure I had a good seat.

There was an amazing turn out. The kids had been practicing their performances within class and as a result 131 of the 350 kids of the kids turned up. As the concert was mid week and started at 6pm no one really expected such a high turn out.

The concert started with a group number before all the kids came up in their year groups to sing their song. Matilda’s year sang ABBA’S Mamma Mia. All the kids sang well and you could tell the effort and preparation that had gone into it.

After everyone had sung, we had an interval where i helped with the refreshment stall. We overestimated the amount of coffee that would be sold and had loads left over at the end but we made quite a bit of money selling cakes and biscuits that people had brought/ made and donated to us.

The second half of the concert started and it was time for the trumpets. Matilda’s year had only been practicing the trumpet for a few months and had only recently started using brass trumpets rather then plastic.

I was very impressed with Matilda and her year they played well and with such confidence. It certainly wasn’t the best trumpet I have heard. It was noisy and difficult to work out what they were playing at first but Matilda loves the trumpet and it’s nice to watch her enjoying something.

Because of the height number of children attending, it took them longer to get the kids up to the front and back again and as a result, the concert went on for longer then expected. But all the parents enjoyed it and the kids loved performing to their parents. They are already planning about another concert but may need a larger location.

Helping at the School Cake Sale.

A few weeks ago my mum went to a PTA meeting at Matilda’s school. Sadly I couldn’t attend because of work but I soon got a text telling me she had volunteered me to help on the upcoming cake sale!

Making the Brownies Run.

As you may know I am Brownie Leader. Every week I help to plan and carry out activities for the girls. I absolutely love it as I work with an awesome team and the girls always bring a smile to my face (when they aren't making me pull my hair out!). However this week we found another use for the Brownies.

Falsh Eyelash Giveaway

As we reach the end of January, we can hopefully wash those January blues away. We all struggle in January, the weather is colder, money is tight after Christmas and we all have to go back to work and school after enjoying some time off.

Back to Brownies

Last week it was back to school which also meant back to Brownies. As normal, the first meeting back in a new term is a very chilled out meeting. We normally spend the time playing games and asking the girls what they want to do this term so we can plan the next 12 or so weeks of meetings. We like to ease the girls (and us) back into a routine.

My New Years Resolution.

I don’t normally do New Years resolutions. Every year I think about making New Years resolutions but quickly realised I am rubbish at keeping them. I have very little willpower and normally within a few weeks I have either given up or completely forgotten.
